Mitochondrial DNA Sequencing
The mitochondrion (plural mitochondria) found in most eukaryotic cells have their own genome which is a circular double stranded DNA molecule. In addition to generation of most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), mitochondria play role in signaling, cellular differentiation, cell death, as well as the control of the cell cycle and cell growth. In human, changes in mitochondrial genome have been implicated in several human diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease and may play a role in the aging process. In plants, the nuclear and mitochondrial gene(s) interactions is also responsible for cytoplasmic male sterility in over 150 plant species, including rice, corn, sorghum, pearl millet, sunflower etc. Xcelris Genomics offers mitochondrial DNA sequencing service on MiSeq (2x250, 2x300 bp PE) . Depending on the genome size sequencing data is generated, and bioinformatics analysis will be performed for either de novo or reference based genome assembly
